Litter Choice

My best advice for cat litter is, regardless of what type or brand you use, make sure that it is scent free. Many cats can and have had skin reactions to the scenting chemical. It is better to stay away from any scents as a whole period. The best litter and what I use when litter training is Worlds Best scoop-able. I have a way to get this at 1/2 price. Make sure to ask about it when adopting your new kitten. Once they are litter trained at 6 weeks I move to pine pellets.

Diet

Due to common food allergies and the need for a cats to have a high protein diet, raw is the absolute best. Not to mention if you want a big cat, raw is the wat to go. You can get raw ready to use in most pet stores in the frozen section. I use raw (ground beef 80/20 and chicken from Meijer) & free feed kibble. I often change the food to try and avoid a picky eater. Each kitten goes home with the (Costco grain free) kibble that I use. If you are going to follow with the kibble, my only request is to use a quality grain free.

Vitamin & Supplements

I always recommend giving your raw fed cat calcium, a probiotic and a multivitamin. Most cats respond well to L-lysine, an amino acid that is effective in boosting the immune system. Lysine is another recommendation to have with all cats. Info on all products recommended are sent home with each kitten.

Your cats ear health is important

-Gather supplies: olive oil or commercial ear cleaner (Epi-otic), cotton balls & q-tips
-Apply the ear cleaner to the cotton ball.
-Place the cotton ball in ear, just inside the ear, then message the base of the ear, which loosens the dirt, wax and oil from the ear then throw the cotton ball away.
-Repeat first two steps for the other ear.
-Leave your cat alone for 5 minutes. He'll do a great deal of head shaking, which will dislodge dirt and move it into the outer ear canal.
-Use a fresh cotton ball to wipe out the excess cleaner and dirt from the ear.
-If you find there is still dirt or wax in the ear gently but carefully with caution use a q-tip to clean the outer crevices of dirt out while not going any where near the inner ear or canal.
Important: As always check with your vet first, and make sure all products are pet safe!
-Give your cat a treat for being so good.
Make sure to ask about a quick trick to cleaning ears.

Nails

Clipping your cat's nails every seven to ten days (depending on how much you clip the nail back) is recommended. It is also recommended you get the cat used to having it's feet handled from an early age. Some cats are less than thrilled at having their claws trimmed. Help them get used to it by gently massaging your cat's feet while its in your lap. Some people trim their cat's back claws, I don't, this is because my cat's tend to wear their back claws down naturally.
-Gather supplies. I use regular nail clippers for humans, but you can also purchase clippers specifically for cat's claws, chlorine free non sensed baby wipes.
-Have the cat resting comfortably on your lap, the floor, or a table.
-Hold a paw in one hand and press a toe pad gently to extend the claw. Notice the pink tissue (the quick as shown in the photo below) on the inside of the claw.

-Avoid the quick when you trim the claw. Cutting into it will cause pain and bleeding.
-Remove the sharp tip below the quick (away from the toe), clipping about halfway between the end of the quick and the tip of claw.
-Be persistent and get the job done! If your cat becomes impatient, pet them and praise them and continue on, they are like kids, if you give them a break or wait until another day to finish they will become custom to being fussy and not wanting to finish.
-Use chlorine free non sensed baby wipes to clean under the nails and any other part of the little toes where all that black dirty stuff hangs out, especially in and around the flappy piece of skin by the nail area. The bath should have loosened up the dirt.

And, overall... Give your cat a treat for being so good!
